Anika Kozlowski & Irene Stickney (WINNER - Most Promising Designer)2.v
2.v is a collaboration between Two Virgos with design addictions, shoe fetishes and a host of other credit problems. After meeting while drinking beer in the washroom at Ryerson, 2.v spent countless hours together in the school library, arguing over the merits of off shore production versus domestic and drooling over the pages of Italian Vogue. Between the two, they have worked for Jeremy Laing, Jones New York, appeared in Sportswear International, Flare, Now, Fashion Television, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, earned a degree in life sciences, starred in a documentary about sustainable fashion design and survived the perils of design school, with alcohol problems to prove it. Future plans include knitting the worlds longest scarf, maybe one day considering gettingsome sleep, and appearing on the cover of Eye Weekly.
Interpretation of Theme
Between the Lines, there exists an invisible world of half meanings, subtle gestures and delicate emotions.
Interpretation brings a multiplicity of meaning and we long for a light to bring clarity and transparency to a complicated world.
2.v interpret the theme of ‘Between the Lines’ as a need for light and transparency in life.
We have juxtaposed strong, tailored denim lines against delicate fabrics like transparent
taffeta, florals and lace. Like a Chinese Lantern, the lantern shaped sleeve of the first dress
is made from transparent fabric and lit from inside and lined with lace, casting an otherworldly,
candy coloured ight onto the pale, tailored fabric of the dress.
The structured lines of the collection represent the lines which society draws, and which we
are confined by. They are inspired by the designs of Buckminster Fuller, who was himself
a light in his time. His vision for the future, where design can create a better world
is also our vision.
